Chapter 26: Embrace Your Own Genius
1. Every
child has his or her own unique gift. However, school wasn’t where everyone
found their gift.
2. In
every human there is a genius. This spark of genius is smothered by those who
nurture, educate and love us the most – our parents, families, teachers and
friends. Whether carelessly, maliciously, innocently or ignorantly, this spark
can be snuffed out.
3. I
had tracked down people who were considered geniuses in their fields. There was
one principle I found operating in each of these people, which was: they used
what they LOVED to solve problems they HATED. All of these people were using
their gifts – those that came naturally to them – to solve problems that
bothered them deeply or in some way totally captured their attention.
4. If
you continuously refining and improving your gift to make this world better,
your genius will emerge.
5. It
has been my experience that a person who does not find a way to give his or her
gift back to the world will suffer through life with a sense of incompleteness
– like awakening every morning to a void and a longing that nothing can fill.
6. You
were born a genius. The school system may or may not have recognized it. May be
your parents didn’t either. And maybe even you are blind to it today. But there
really is something special and magical about you. This world is in need of
people like you who are willing to give their gift.
